Bonjour Paris,
Goodbye New York

I went to sample sale of CONFETTISYSTEM lately and got the Party Party Paper Diamond which is featured also in our Mondi Lookbook. Confettisystem are Julie Ho and Nicholas Andersen,
a NYC based duo working as Artists, Stylists and Designers.
MARY MEYER is a Brooklyn based fashion designer whose clothing is handmade there as well.
I had to buy the latest issue of ACNE PAPER.. it's called the Manhattan Issue. There were three covers and of course I got the one with Mikhail Baryshnikov.
LAURA is the Zine of Jared Leon & Johanna Heldebro who have been publishing it for 3 years now. It all started in Red Hook, Brooklyn, where many things were going on at that time and Jared and Johanna tried to capture this flow in their magazine.
CLOG MAGAZINE'S February 13 issue is about Brutalism which is a defining architectural style of the post-war era – characterised by severe, abstract geometries and the use of cast concrete, block and brick.

The citiest of all cities
"It's good to be back, right?" – a very young kid on a skateboard shouted out to me the other day when crossing a street in Manhattan. I totally agree.

The Bio Top 3 Lookbook
Copies of freshly printed limited edition lookbook arrived last week at our Studio in Vienna. We are so happy to see our final work but most of all we are overwhelmed by receiving such positive and nice reaction of contributors who just got their copy and emailed us straight away.

We really like the new album "Wait to Pleasure" of Canadian shoegazing band No Joy.
It just came out and I went to Other Music to get a vinyl copy of limited edition release. Other Music: "Compared to most of the other shoegaze revivalists of recent, No Joy's new album really does sound like it could have been released in the early '90s"

Photographs Erieta Attali
The cosmopolitan Landscape
New York City; the last weeks we met regularly
with ueber-talented architectural photographer and cosmopolitan Erieta Attali whose images of the most visionary, contemporary architecture around
the globe are transcendent to us.
We are very happy to develop and design a new
identity and website for Erieta who worked
as photographer for Richard Meier, Toyo Ito, Steven Holl,
Tadao Ando – just to point out a few. As serious as
that all sounds, we are always ending up giggling
like kids when we meet. Maybe because she is
bringing Champaign to our reunions...

When I'm in NYC I always go to PRINTED MATTER, INC., which is – according to their website – the world's largest non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of publications made by Artists. They also organize the NY ART BOOK FAIR. This time I got the magazine TOILET PAPER (which is spread on the photo above), the art magazine KALEIDOSKOPE and a newsprint specimen of COLOPHON FOUNDRY. I stayed over two hours in the store. It's like going to a museum where you actually can buy everything.
There's the program of the BARYSHNIKOV ARTS CENTER NYC (the one in fluorescent color) whose building is right next to ours. Last week I was smoking a cigarette downstairs and realized that Mikhail Baryshnikov himself was standing next to me smoking a cigarette too. I just enrolled for ballet class here in NYC and was telling myself to cut down cigarette consumption but when the greatest ballet dancer ever is smoking a cigarette right beside you, your intentions are suddenly gone. I'm doing well at ballet class by the way.
I always get attention when wearing this self-made necklace (above) inspired by plumbers and sailors. HENRI J. SILLAM, our Haute Joaillerie client, would wrinkle his nose in complete disgust. But I have to say that Building Supplies Stores are a very sophisticated inspiration source. I really can recommend going there!

New York, mon Amour
De retour à New York for the next two months! We are working on Blog On Paper Magazine and the completion of Architect Paola Iacucci's manifesto book. I'm very happy to meet Yehuda Safran, who is contributing to the book, next week in his NY studio. Yehuda just developed the Adolf Loos exhibition at the Viennese MAK which opened on March 13th.

Customized Photography
We met charismatic photographer Meinrad Hofer in New York City a year ago and became friends instantly. I remember having many cups of tea together in our kitchen in Hell's Kitchen with the Empire building in view, discussing the website in every detail. We all came up with the idea that it would be amazing for a photographer being able to arrange photos differently thus creating a customized portfolio for each viewer. By arranging those photo portfolios, as Meinrad wants them to be seen by a client, an url is being generated automatically. Meinrad now is able to send photo-customized websites to clients. And René, our invention and innovation pro, worked it out! Yeah!

Gabriele Chiari
in Paris
Parisian Art Gallery Bernard Jordan asked us to design the catalogue of rising Artist Gabriele Chiari who is currently collaborating with Paris fashion house Hermès.
We met the Artist in her Parisian studio and had quite an inspirational time together. Her work for Hermès will be shown at Palais de Tokyo on June 20th.

We artdirected and edited an extraordinary limited edition lookbook for international paper company Mondi Group. More news to come!

Confettisystem
The studio who have contributed to our Mondi Lookbook lately is on view at MoMA PS1 until March 31.
That's great for us too because we are coming back to NYC
in March and will stay quite a while...

From our record collection
We admire Frank Tovey aka Fad Gadget a lot.
He was a British avantgarde musician and vocalist during early Eighties where the electronic/
new wave phenomenon was emerging.

Manifesto Series
We have continued working on the Manifesto poster series as it's going to take part in the Blog On Paper Magazine which launches in Spring 2013.

a rare indulgence..

LOOK BOOK
We were asked to do the art direction & design
for the Bio Top 3 look book of Mondi Group/Fine Papers. What a pleasure!

Our Question Manifesto published in Design Austria Magazine.
What's pretty funny about it: our "manifesto design" has been modified by the magazine's graphic designer who apparently was ashamed to just put a simple photograph and text on the page. So now in the magazine layout there's a line framing the manifesto and our original typeface Univers has been also magically changed into a decorative italic serif. Maybe the designer was bored or he just answered one of our questions "Bauhaus or Art Déco?"... it's too hilarious!
But many thanks to the creative genius Nikolaus Prokop who wrote very nice things about us. (yes, a certain comparison with Helmut Lang... we are flattered)

Raimund Abraham
& the ACFNY
I found some beautiful drawings of the ACFNY by Raimund Abraham in Paola Iacucci's library. The building is one of my favorites in NYC.
Raimund Abraham in an interview with Kenneth Frampton: "If there has been any inspiration or reflection upon a particular New York condition it was my fascination with the simplicity and surprising complexity of the scissor stair. Architecturally it has become the Vertebra of the tower, striving for infinity as the endless column of Brancusi."

For the next two months the Say Say Say's are based again in New York City to continue working on Architect Paola Iacucci's book and taking care of stationary production for video editor Nella. C'est la super joie!

Miami
I like this photograph a lot.
Shot by Steve Hiett in 1978.

Every since and then our posters outside of our studio in the Viennese Museumsquarter disappear and we need to fill again the empty space. Actually it's a nice thought that someone might carry around our posters secretly. But probably one can find them just in the trashcan around the corner...Well, email us a warm hello and you get a poster for free.

Quirky Questions from The press
A short while ago Austrian Newspaper Die Presse asked us to answer five questions related to our creative work. Actually those questions turned out to be more about the locations where we are currently working. They had to shorten our answers so unfortunately the funny stuff wasn´t being published...
Die Presse (German language)

Hipster: a transatlantic discussion
Who exactly is the modern hipster and why he has such a bad reputation, is currently trying to answer this book that was published in the U.S. two years ago and now translated into German. The book is a collection of lectures, discussions and exhilarant essays.
What we need to say:
1. the modern Hipster is not an artist
2. Vice Magazine has often been accused of using irony to promote racist, homophobic and sexist attitudes. Dear Hipster, this is not cool!
